Ivy House Bridge Lifting, Caldon Canal, Hanley, Staffordshire
The bridge replaced a very heavy manually operated one in the 1980s. This one is controlled electrically by boat crews with a BWB key. The control panel operates automatically, but do keep your hand on the button or it pauses while you dream and wonder why nothing is happening. Here the bridge is already half up, so I can rev up and move forwards!

New apartments east of Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent
Many nearby former industrial areas, long demolished and cleared out, have now been redeveloped with housing. This 2014-2015 canal-side development is part of the Ivy House Mills development by Lock Keepers Way. (There is no lock nearby).
The Ivy House Lift Bridge is adjacent, just off to the right.

Ivy House Lift Bridge near Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent
Bridge No 11 across the Caldon Canal is the Ivy House Lift Bridge, an electrically powered structure operated by boat crews, which has replaced an earlier notoriously difficult to manage bridge.
Looking west towards Hanley. The bridge has just been lowered, but the road barriers have yet to be raised.
