Cheadle Catholic Church
Charles Street, Cheadle, Staffordshire. This is the "west" door. Like Image this church is dedicated to Saint Giles. It is a splendid piece of Gothick Revival architecture by Augustus Welby Pugin http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Augustus_Pugin opened and consecrated on September 1st, 1846. The Sidings
Cheadle, Staffordshire. At the end of Station Road and with Pullman Close off it, one does not need to be a student of old maps to guess that this is the site of Cheadle railway station. St Giles Roman Catholic Church, Cheadle
The spire of St Giles Roman Catholic Church in Cheadle, the church is known as 'Pugin's Gem'. The church was designed by architect Augustus Pugin and funded by the 16th Earl of Shrewsbury of nearby Alton Towers. The interior of the church is extremely ornate. In Simon Jenkins' book 'England's Thousand Best Churches', this is one of only seventeen churches awarded five stars.
