Gateway and dwelling in Amport
The inscription on the gatepost reads "Guelpho non son ne Ghibellin m'apello chi mi da da mangir" which must be something to do with the Guelphs and Ghibellines which were rival factions in Italy in the Middle Ages. Can anyone help with the translation?....Today (25 February) I received an email suggesting the following: 'I am neither Guelph nor Ghibelline, but call myself by the name of whoever gives me something to eat.' I am grateful to Virginia for her help.
