Un-named lane northeast of Cold Harbour House
The epither cold harbour crops-up every so often in Central Southern England. It dates back to the time when 'generous' landowners would set up a wayside shelter for travellers. No food or warmth was provided; hence the name.

Track near Cold Harbour House
A route with public access, seen from the point where it crosses a lane from St Mary Bourne to Egbury Farm. Ahead, it drops into a dry valley and forms a crossroads with a lane from St Mary Bourne to Egbury. Across this, it becomes a motorable lane and can be seen climbing past trees and Cold Harbour Farm.

Entrance to Bourne Valley pick-your-own
The PYO movement began to gather momentum during the 1970's and 80's. The convenience of supermarkets and the hectic pace of modern life have been adverse influences of this way of directly connecting food producers and consumers. Contacts still in the trade tell me that they also lose about 5% to 10% of their crops due to scrumping and carelessness on the part of the customer. It's a pity that a good idea, which reduces 'Food Miles', hasn't found wider favour in practice.
