Old and new roads, Widham Bridge
The original course of the road before the railway (opened 1841) on the left, road over railway bridge on the right. The lower road on each side of the railway then served as approaches to Purton station, which closed in 1964, although the railway remains open.

Swindon to Gloucester railway, Collins Lane, Purton (1)
Viewed from the level crossing looking west north west towards Gloucester. This is a very quiet line compared with the multi-track lines radiating from London.

Purton railway station (site), Wiltshire, 2010
Opened in 1841 on the Great Western Railway's line from Swindon to Stroud, this station closed in 1964. View west towards Minety and Stroud. The former booking office survives, the flat roof being a later addition, along with part of the platform. The line was singled in 1968, but redoubled 4 years after this image was taken. Purton railway station (site), Wiltshire
Opened in 1841 on the Great Western Railway's line from Swindon to Stroud, this station closed in 1964. View west towards Minety and Stroud. The former booking office survives, the flat roof being a later addition, along with part of the platform. After around 45 years of being single track here (see Image), the line was redoubled in 2014.
