2010 : Civic pride, Upper Seagry
A collection of Best Kept Village awards displayed at the side of the bus shelter.
They have some pretty stiff competition from the likes of Castle Combe, Great Somerford and others.
Noticed the neat appearance of the village as I came through.

Goss Croft Hall Project
The start of work on the construction of a new village hall which will serve Seagry, Startley & Great Somerford. The field is called Goss Croft. The existing village hall, 100 metres up the road to Startley, dates from 1917 http://www.gosscroft.co.uk/old-hall-history.php , but "it is well past its serviceable life and is condemned in both its dilapidating structure, lack of almost all modern standards in its facilities and appearance ... the benefits and urgency of constructing a new hall cannot be underestimated" http://www.gosscroft.co.uk/ . In spite of the last statement, work has started on a new building.

Startley and Seagry Village Hall
Constructed in 1917; "it was built and used as studio by Countess Gleichen a painter, and her sister a sculptress ... cousins of King George V ... A later tenant at 'The Rookery' turned the studio into a chicken house! Later on around 1922 it was bought at auction by Countess Cowley of Seagry House for the sum of £20 who donated the building to the village ... The building was moved to its present location by voluntary labour. 'The Hut' as it became known was a long wooden construction some 30ft long x 18ft wide. In 1946 Countess Cowley gifted the plot of land on which the current hall is sited" http://www.gosscroft.co.uk/old-hall-history.php .
