Constructed in 1917; "it was built and used as studio by Countess Gleichen a painter, and her sister a sculptress ... cousins of King George V ... A later tenant at 'The Rookery' turned the studio into a chicken house! Later on around 1922 it was bought at auction by Countess Cowley of Seagry House for the sum of £20 who donated the building to the village ... The building was moved to its present location by voluntary labour. 'The Hut' as it became known was a long wooden construction some 30ft long x 18ft wide. In 1946 Countess Cowley gifted the plot of land on which the current hall is sited" http://www.gosscroft.co.uk/old-hall-history.php .
