2009 : Ploughed field east of Bowden Hill
And south of Derry Hill. Both are just over a mile away. Looks like maize stalks from the previous crop, the next is likely to be wheat or barley, oil seed rape would be showing by now.

2009 : Maize stubble off the A342
Maize is usually one of the last crops to be harvested, it needs the extra time to ripen. In a wet year this means ploughing must be left to next spring.

Bowood Estate Cottage
Turning off the A342 to access the fabulous collection of ericaceous plants that is the Bowood Rhododendrons one is struck by this charming stone cottage at the entrance.
