The footpath from Hillworth Road to St John's passes this housing development. The market town of Devizes developed around its 11th century castle. It gained a charter in 1141 and holds a weekly market in the large and picturesque Market Place. From Hillworth Road, near its junction with Hartmoor Road, the footpath runs to St John's Street via the churchyard of St John's. The market town of Devizes developed around its 11th century castle. The timeline of the ha ha seen at Image Hillworth Park was originally the gardens of Hillworth House. The house was rebuilt in 1832. The house and estate of some 27 acres was purchased by the Council of the Borough of Devizes in 1945 and the house became apartments. Much of the estate was sold for development and the remaining area of almost 5 acres is the present park. The basic layout of the paths remains as shown on a plan of 1842.
