Sewer vent pipe, junction Harrow Road/Carshalton Road, Carshalton, Surrey
This shows the top of this vent pipe, one of some 20 noted in Carshalton. Only one similar decorated pipe has been discovered anywhere else, which was in Chester. There are many places that have sewer vent pipes, but this very ornate type is known only at Carshalton (~20 examples) and Chester (1 example).
If anyone knows of any others like this I would be particularly pleased to hear. (note: street lamp for comparison of heights)

Looking along Wales Avenue, a road first marked on the 1896 25 inch map as a cul-de-sac with limited development and more fully developed on the 1913 edition but still a cul-de-sac, ending at nos 20 & 22, the houses on the right in this photo. St. Philomena's School, Carshalton
This photograph shows just part of the school and its grounds. The school occupies the grounds of Carshalton House, an historic building. It is a large Roman Catholic girls' senior school, and is very highly regarded for its excellent academic results - and also, incidentally, for the very good behaviour in public of its students.
