The nearest three semi-detached pairs (together with a corresponding trio on the left hand side of the road, off the side of the photo) are marked on the 1913 25 inch map as an isolated group named Laburnum Villas, with no other housing within 300m. Full development of the area had taken place by the 1935 edition. In the left background is the sewer vent column in Image

Laburnum Avenue, Carshalton, Surrey
I have identified the sites of some twenty of these decorative sewer vents around the former urban district of Carshalton. The exact design of the top varies in that some have the arrow at the top, others below the vents, as here. Sadly in 2007 some of the vents have been removed, others have lost their distinctive appearance.

Erskine Close, Benhilton
It is only a dead end as they have put a bollard half way along, but being a private road they can do whatever they like. The council do the same anyway so probably not that different.

War Memorial Sports Ground
Home of Carshalton Athletic Football Club - known as The Robins. Robins fans watch the match against Wingate & Finchley on a misty Tuesday evening. Both Ryman League Premier Division sides were fighting against relegation and the home side lost 1 - 2 on the night, although a draw would have been a fair result.
