Godolphin Playing Fields
The northern boundary of a large tract of park and playing fields surrounded by suburban housing. The unusual name comes from Dr. Henry Godolphin, 1648 - 1733, who was provost of Eton College and Dean of St Paul's Cathedral. He lived in Baylis House just south of here, the grounds of which are now part of this park.

Slough: Baylis House
Baylis House was originally completed in 1696 for Dr Gregory Hascard, the Dean of Windsor. Since then it has variously been a private residence, a school, an hotel, and a Second World War ARP headquarters. It is currently in use as a Business Conference Centre and is Grade I listed. (From a Geograph point of view these gates and the photographer's view point are in this grid square Image However the distant facade of the building itself is in grid square Image)

Baylis House, Slough
Attractive brick facade with its regular grid of windows. Pretty much all the ornament is expressed by means of the brickwork, e.g. the arches over the ground-floor windows. It was built c1696 for Gregory Hascard, Dean of Windsor, and altered and enlarged in the C18th and C19th. Grade I listed. It is now a hotel, restaurant and conference centre. The date of the photo is uncertain.
