Snow cleared from the road has been piled up on the edge of the pavement, obliterating in some parts the double yellow-lines.

I thought there was some work going on when I saw the cherry-picker-crane (actually a JLG lift) on Hamnett Street but in fact it was merely parked in the space between the hydroponics shop and the Job Centre. On the opposite side of the road is the Postal Sorting Office.

Hamnett Street
Hamnett Street seems to have acquired an extra terminal "t" over the years. At the turn of the 20th century "3 Hamnet Street", on the right, was Fowden's Undertakers. http://oldhyde.blogspot.co.uk/2011/04/j-t-fowden-undertakers-on-hamnet-street.html Although still listed as such in many online directories, it hasn't been an undertakers for some years and is now the home of a hydroponics business. On the left and set back from the street are properties 1 and 3a Hamnett Street. My understanding (although I've lost the source of my information) is that this building was originally part of the funeral business but 3a is now an office of charted architects Davenport and Flinn http://www.davenportandflinn.co.uk/ a business started by Peter Davenport in 1960, established as a partnership with John Flinn in 1975 who now runs the business solely after the former partner retired in 1989.

The large white building at the top of the street was at one time a UCP cafe. Now it is a branch of Santander Bank (originally the Abbey National Image). The shop on the right is now being opened by a local micro brewery as the Tweed Tap https://www.facebook.com/Tweed-Tap-1743868592582337/
