Entrance to Buck and Dog
The Buck and Dog was an old coaching inn next to Lancashire Bridge over the River Mersey. In 1770 it was the house of call for the press gangs. In the mid 1930s it was demolished along with the bridge when the river Mersey was culverted. This ornamental doorway was incorporated into Barclays Bank Image on Percy Street.

Barclays Stockport
Barclays bank in the centre of Stockport is built over the infant River Mersey which was culverted from the late 1930s and now flow under the Merseyway Shopping Centre. Lancashire Bridge and the adjacent coaching inn, the Buck & Dog were demolished. The entrance to the pub with its ornate stonework Image was preserved on the Percy Street side of the building.

The Mersey revealed again
With the repairs to Lancashire Bridge almost completed and a replica of the original parapet put in place a section of the River Mersey sees the light of day again.

Lancashire Bridge
The view from the end of Merseyway following the re-opening of Lancashire Bridge. Immediately next where the buses pass from Tiviotdale into Warren Street are square bollards where people can sit between the diesel fumes and smells that emanate from the infant Mersey.

The stone plaque which had previously been laid in the pavement at the end of Warren Street Image has now been placed on the side of the new bridge parapet Image It reads:
