Church of St Michael, Macclesfield ? Savage Chapel
The most substantial remaining medieval section of the church, the three-storey porch forms a tower in its own right. It was built between 1505 and 1507 as a chantry chapel by Thomas Savage, Archbishop of York. The church is Listed Grade II*.

"I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills"
The view is from the Brocklehurst Memorial Gardens behind Macclesfield Town Hall, and the quote is from the commemorative stone at the north end Image The delightful, intimate valleys and hills east of Macc (as it's affectionately called locally) are the western edge of the Peak District, seen here across the Manchester-Stoke railway, the Silk Road, the Arighi Bianchi furniture store, new apartments off the Buxton Road and Macc's leafy hillside suburbs.

The Brocklehurst Memorial Gardens, Macclesfield
These 1950s gardens are rather squeezed by the car park behind the Town Hall (reached via Unicorn Gateway off Jordangate). The gardens are known locally as Sparrow Park: my thanks to Macclesfield Tourist Information for that. Where not obstructed by trees there is a fine view across the eastern side of Macc (as it's affectionately called locally) Image
