Missing benchmark on Royston milestone
One mile north of Royston near the Tesco superstore, the indentation on the top of this milestone shows where a rivet benchmark once was. The inscription B&K on the milestone signifies Bassingbourn and Kneesworth in Cambridgeshire but county boundary changes now place the milestone in Hertfordshire.

Old Milestone by the Old North Road, Royston Parish
Carved stone post by the UC road, in parish of Royston (North Hertfordshire District), Old North Road, by Tesco, set into boundary fence, on West side of road. Erected by the Royston to Wandesford Bridge turnpike trust in the 19th century.
Inscription reads:-
