Plaque at Benslow Nursing Home, Hitchin
Located on the front wall of the nursing home in Benslow Rise, SG4 9QY, this plaque has the following wording on it: BENSLOW HOUSE Emily Davies (1830-1921), campaigner for the higher education of women, established here in 1869 The College for Women. Her small band of pioneering women laid firm foundations for what became, after 1872, Girton College, Cambridge The logo at the top of the plaque is that of St Mary's Parish Church in Hitchin with the River Hiz below it.

Walsworth railway bridge.
This is a very well known local feature. About once every month, despite warning signs and flashing lights, a tall vehicle will get stuck here and cause chaos.

A Down freight rushes through Hitchin station
View SE, towards London on the ex-Great Northern ECML. Gresley V2 2-6-2 No. 60928 is tearing down from Stevenage on a Class D freight. On the left is Hitchin Locomotive Depot, where an L1 2-6-4T and a B17 4-6-0 can be recognised.

Hitchin Station
Retaining little of its original identity as a Great Northern Railway station after modernisation, Hitchin remains a key junction on the route north from Kings Cross - it is here that the line to Cambridge diverges from the tracks to Peterborough and beyond.

Cambridge train at Hitchin
Great Northern electric unit 317345 calls at platform 2 of Hitchin station, forming the 1248 departure to Cambridge. This unit is one of the first batch of class 317s, built for the electrification of the London St Pancras to Bedford line in 1982-3 and featuring unusual aluminium ventilators. It is about to make use of the recently built flyover to access the Cambridge line.
