Little Hadham: Ford at Hadham Ford
But not the ford after which the village was named, that being the ford where the main road between the Hadhams crossed over the River Ash. Today that original ford has been replaced by a bridge and this ford, which is about 70 metres upstream of the original, is for agricultural use only.

Little Hadham: Village pump and sign at Hadham Ford
The pump is a Grade II Listed Structure and the English Heritage website describes it thus:- "Public pump, 1880. 2 metres high decorated cast iron painted white. Raised lettering cast on N side of chamber reads "ERECTED BY SUBSCRIPTION APRIL 1880". Wide cylindrical barrel with 2 raised rings and large spurred spout at upper ring. Moulded corbelled expansion to chamber with straight moulded spout. Moulded top flange carrying tall foliate cap with pineapple finial. Dog-leg wrought iron handle, pivoted on S face of chamber, tapers to large pear-shaped counterweight knob. Paved surround of blue stable chequer-paviours and white posts with chains between. A fine subscription pump of considerable artistic, social and technological interest. Part of a group at the middle of the Conservation Area." The village sign is a comparative newcomer to the scene, only being erected in 2000, and, as it is carved on it, 2000 AD in case we were in any doubt.

Roadside interest, Hadham Ford
The road runs beside the River Ash here, but no longer fords it. There is another ford for farm access in front of the gate ahead, with a footbridge on the left and pump on the right.
