Deptford station platform above the arches.
The London to Greenwich Railway was the first railway in any Capital City in the World. It received parliamentary approval on May 17 1833. It runs on a viaduct four miles long comprising over 400 arches and opened in 1836.

Church of St. Paul, Deptford
Church of St. Paul, Deptford. built 1712-1730, the work of Thomas Archer. Pevsner describes it as "large, sombre and virile". Certainly a very fine building which looks best when the sun illuminates the white Portland stone. Picture taken in 1959 and scanned from old Agfacolor slide.

Building the new Deptford library
Former council buildings on Giffin Street have been demolished and a new library is being built in its place. Temporary traffic lights were needed to regulate traffic through a narrowed section of the street.
