Charlton Athletic Football Club Ground, SE7
Following the end of WWI, a chalk quarry known as The Swamps was identified for the club's new ground and in the summer of 1919 work began to clear and develop the site. The first match at this "The Valley" ground was played in September 1919. Play continued here until 1923 when the club moved to "The Mount" stadium in Catford as part of a proposed merger with Catford Southend Football Club. However, when this proposed move failed to materialise in 1924 Charlton returned to The Valley. This is a view from inside the Lansdowne Mews entrance.
