The Woodman, Little Heath
As Stephen explains at Image, the pub has closed and is now a supermarket. But there has been a significant change in the landscape since then; on either side are new town houses, occupying what was the beer garden.

The Woodman Shop, Charlton
This was once Image, a public house. Still kept, the pub sign and sign above the door but changed internally!

Part of the animal farm enclosure in Maryon Wilson Park
The land now taken up by Maryon Wilson Park was once part of the Hanging Wood which originally stretched from Woolwich Common to Charlton and which provided shelter for the highwaymen of Shooters Hill and Blackheath. Samuel Pepys often told of his dread of Hanging Wood when he was obliged to travel to Woolwich. Although still woodland it is rather more peaceful nowadays. In the lower part of the park are animal farm enclosures which include sheep, deer and other animals and birds.

The Woodman gets the chop
The pub on the corner of Hillreach and Erwood Road, pictured in Image in 2007, closed in June 2009. It had been lacking in custom and rather run-down for a while so its closure was not unexpected. By 2011 it had reopened as a shop. The dark tarmac and bright white lines on the road in the foreground (Hillreach) indicate that it was resurfaced around the same time (May/June 2009).

Stream through Maryon Wilson Park in winter

Samuel Pepys often told of his dread of Hanging Wood when he was obliged to travel to Woolwich. Although still woodland it is rather more peaceful nowadays. The path followed by the Green Chain Walk and Capital Ring climbs steadily from the Thames through Maryon Park and then Maryon Wilson Park to reach the exit opposite Cemetery Lane. This view looks down the stream which runs through the park.
