Ferrier Estate, Kidbrooke Park Road
A welcome splash of colour amid the mass of grey concrete. Soon to be the ex-Ferrier Estate, much of it having already been turned to dust. The only inhabitants were rats (this chap was on the penultimate step: Image]) and pigeons (Image]). The estate was built by the Greater London Council and completed in 1970.

Rat, Ferrier Estate
The human residents having been moved out prior to demolition, rats and pigeons had spotted an opportunity and colonised the place. Despite their putative ubiquity, in twenty-five years of living in London I'd never before seen one.

Holy Spirit church - the last day
The Holy Spirit church - a daughter church of the Anglican parish of St James, Kidbrooke - was opened in 1978 in a shop unit on Telemann Square. Over 34 years, in partnership with the Church Army, it was the base for various forms of ministry to the residents of this deprived estate, especially young people. The church had to close as part of the redevelopment of the estate and the final service was held on Sunday 13 November 2011 in the presence of the Bishop of Southwark, Christopher Chessun.
