Tasty Jerk Centre, Whitehorse Lane, Thornton Heath
"A taste of Boston Bay, Portland JA", proclaim the signs. On Friday and Saturday nights the chimney pumps out an appetising smell of jerk chicken, serving Thornton Heath's big Caribbean community. In May 2013 the Croydon Advertiser reported that the company running it, and the company's owners, had been fined £30,000 for a series of breaches of food safety regulations. Beyond, the buildings of the new Sainsbury's petrol station that opened in 2013 (replacing an independent Total station) and in the far distance a row of modern houses built along the northern edge of Crystal Palace FC's Selhurst Park ground.

"A taste of Boston Bay, Portland JA", proclaim the signs. On Friday and Saturday nights the metal chimney to the left pumps out an appetising smell of jerk chicken, serving Thornton Heath's big Caribbean community. Early in the morning, of course, it's still shuttered up. In May 2013 the Croydon Advertiser reported that the company running it, and the company's owners, had been fined £30,000 for a series of breaches of food safety regulations.

Crystal Palace players celebrate a goal
Photo taken facing the Arthur Wait stand, with the "Sainsbury's end" to the left. Aki Riihilahti has just scored Palace's first goal in a 2-2 draw with Ipswich Town. Face obscured, he is embraced by Jobi McAnuff and Andrew Johnson. If you haven't encountered Aki's unconventional take on the life of a professional footballer, see http://www.akiriihilahti.com.
