Peckham Rye
At the junction of Peckham Rye and East Dulwich Grove. It is a contrast to the colourful bustle of Rye Lane, only a short walk to the North.

Carving alongside Nunhead Lane
This is in a line of London plane trees so I assume it was carved from a former London Plane. Peckham Rye Common stretches away beyond. See also http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/4179781 and http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/4404109

Peckham: East Dulwich Road
Looking west along East Dulwich Road (A2214) from its crossroads with Peckham Rye (the road, eastern leg, B219). The bus is on Route 37 and is nearing the end of its journey from Putney Heath (Green Man) to Peckham bus station. In former years, this was a very long route with its western terminus at Hounslow.

Peckham Rye Common
'Peckham Rye' can mean various things: it can mean the wide-open green space seen and correctly named here: it can mean the roads which border this common on both east and west sides, and meet at their northern ends in the centre of Peckham: or it can even mean the railway station on Peckham Rye Lane and about 1 km from where this photograph was taken. Muriel Spark wrote a book called 'The Ballad of Peckham Rye', and there was once a bus garage called Peckham Rye garage.

Peckham Rye
The northern tip of the common. A young monkey puzzle tree (Araucaria araucana - a little over 2 m high) is in the foreground. Old maps show a swimming pool in the background, but this has been demolished.
