'Peckham Rye' can mean various things: it can mean the wide-open green space seen and correctly named here: it can mean the roads which border this common on both east and west sides, and meet at their northern ends in the centre of Peckham: or it can even mean the railway station on Peckham Rye Lane and about 1 km from where this photograph was taken. Muriel Spark wrote a book called 'The Ballad of Peckham Rye', and there was once a bus garage called Peckham Rye garage.
