Telephone exchange, Park Hall Road
A neo-Georgian building dating from the 1930s (at a guess). An interesting shape with the centrepiece owing something to the Art Deco movement.

At the corner of Park Hall Road. A mid-C19th pub, tarted up in recent years like so many others and now I suppose counts as a gastro-pub. Grade II listed.

Houses, Chancellor Grove (2)
A group of houses of varying vintages and in a variety of styles. The group of three C20th houses still have their original metal Crittall windows.

Spartali monument, Greek Orthodox Cemetery, West Norwood Cemetery
An imposing mausoleum taking the form of a small Greek Doric temple in marble and pink granite. The entrance has been crudely blocked up. Following Eustratios Spartali in 1845, eight further members of the family were interred here. Maria trained under Ford Madox Brown and became a successful artist. Grade II listed. West Norwood Cemetery is one of the “Magnificent Seven” cemeteries founded in the early C19th to deal with the expanding population of London. It was laid out by Sir William Tite and opened in 1837. It has 65 Grade II and Grade II* listed monuments.

Cassavetes monument, Greek Orthodox Cemetery, West Norwood Cemetery
Chest tomb on which rests a grieving woman. Eleven members of the family are interred here, including Demetrios (d.1858). His daughter, Maria (d.1914), was a Pre-Raphaelite painter. Grade II listed. West Norwood Cemetery is one of the “Magnificent Seven” cemeteries founded in the early C19th to deal with the expanding population of London. It was laid out by Sir William Tite and opened in 1837. It has 65 Grade II and Grade II* listed monuments.

Sheridan monument, Greek Orthodox Cemetery, West Norwood Cemetery
Marble chest tomb featuring carved panels of women and children. Julia Sheridan (nee Giulia Cassavetti) was born in Egypt where her family traded cotton and grain. Grade II listed. West Norwood Cemetery is one of the “Magnificent Seven” cemeteries founded in the early C19th to deal with the expanding population of London. It was laid out by Sir William Tite and opened in 1837. It has 65 Grade II and Grade II* listed monuments.

In the Greek Enclosure of West Norwood Cemetery
Opened as the South Metropolitan Cemetery in 1837, West Norwood Cemetery is one of the Magnificent Seven cemeteries of London and is said to hold the finest collection of sepulchral monuments in the capital. There are 65 Grade II Listed monuments in West Norwood Cemetery. The Greek Enclosure is most impressive of all.
