Spartali monument, Greek Orthodox Cemetery, West Norwood Cemetery
An imposing mausoleum taking the form of a small Greek Doric temple in marble and pink granite. The entrance has been crudely blocked up. Following Eustratios Spartali in 1845, eight further members of the family were interred here. Maria trained under Ford Madox Brown and became a successful artist. Grade II listed.
West Norwood Cemetery is one of the “Magnificent Seven” cemeteries founded in the early C19th to deal with the expanding population of London. It was laid out by Sir William Tite and opened in 1837. It has 65 Grade II and Grade II* listed monuments.

Cassavetes monument, Greek Orthodox Cemetery, West Norwood Cemetery
Chest tomb on which rests a grieving woman. Eleven members of the family are interred here, including Demetrios (d.1858). His daughter, Maria (d.1914), was a Pre-Raphaelite painter. Grade II listed.

Marble chest tomb featuring carved panels of women and children. Julia Sheridan (nee Giulia Cassavetti) was born in Egypt where her family traded cotton and grain. Grade II listed.
