Oak, Dulwich Park (4)
This magnificent specimen has its own plaque ("supported by Esso"), marking it as one of the "great trees of London". It's a Turkey oak (Quercus cerris). A close-up: Image The 72-acre park dates from 1890. It was laid out by Lt Col J.J. Sexby of the Metropolitan Board of Works, after an initial design by Charles Barry junior, surveyor to Dulwich College who donated the site.
