Neighbourhood shop, corner of Alvey Street and Surrey Grove, Walworth
On the corner of Alvey Street and Surrey Grove, Grove Food & Wine appears a thriving business. Before World War II Alvey Street showed on maps as an artery to and from central London. Now it and Surrey Grove are stubs on the edge of the Aylesbury Estate. Two of the blocks in the Wolverton group are on the left.

The painted white box on the right is a corner shop, Grove Food & Wine on Alvey Street, retained from the original streets of terraced houses Image Through the gap is the 14-storey Wendover block by Thurlow Street on the Aylesbury Estate.

20-54 Surrey Square
A magnificent Georgian terrace by Michael Searles, 1793-94, for the Rolls Estate. It was more impressive until Victorian philistines pulled down almost half of it for a school, leaving the central pediment decidedly off-centre. Each house is of three bays in three storeys and has a simple doorcase (Image], Image]). There is no skimping here - there are three openings on each storey following Palladio's dictum of void upon void, solid upon solid. The aforementioned centre is treated more grandly (Image]). Grade II listed. The whole terrace stands behind a contemporary raised pavement. Grade II listed.

Surrey Square Park sign near Kinglake Street entrance, Walworth
A plan with little context. The entrance shown in Image is below the P of Park. The title of the plan is where Kinglake Street is. The long part of Surrey Grove is the car access and parking behind Southborough House flats. The white rectangle, top right corner of the plan, is the shop in Alvey Street Image
