Swan with Two Heads pub (site of) Swan Road, Rotherhithe, London, SE16
It was at the junction with Rotherhithe Street from 1683 to 1813. I believe it was on the left i.e. where the car is parked on the driveway. This is based on a description I read - "on an island". Many years ago Swan Road forked around a building and even in the early 1960's an alley isolated a granary type building where the corner house is. Building on the right is Winchelsea House of the Swan Estate. Previously called 'Floating Dock' and the 'Two Knecked Swan' - both these names could be linked to an 'island'.

Battle of the Nile pub (site of). 39, Ainsty Street, Rotherhithe, London, SE16
Image shows Brunel Road and on the left is the junction with Ainsty Street that originally cut across Brunel Road and terminated at Rotherhithe Street. At one of the right hand corners of the junction stood the pub. It was built in 1814 and demolished in the 1930's after having served a time as a cafe. It may be considered too close to the pub in the background (Adam & Eve at No 33) but years ago in Rotherhithe there were many pubs that were closer still.

Adam and Eve, Brunel Road
An old East London Brewery house (The Wenlock Brewery Co of Wenlock Road in Shoreditch) which was built in 1913. The dock trade may have gone but there is a large residential community to serve in Rotherhithe. Spectators have gathered to watch the London Marathon passing through.

Wenlock Brewery's Adam & Eve
Recent pictures of this corner pub show that the Wenlock Brewery panels at the top of the pub have been painted over. This was how it looked around 25 years ago. Wenlock Brewery was in Wenlock Road, Shoreditch, and was bought out by Bass brewery in 1961. From a print. Date approximate.
