Former slipper baths, Deptford
The carved sign above the door of this building on the corner of Ilderton Road and Stockholm Road says "Deptford Borough Council - slipper baths". Baths like this were built by local authorities from the 1860s onwards to allow poor people to wash themselves (as distinct from swimming baths). The building is now apparently the home of Shekinah Ministries and Bless You International Ministries.

Clifftonville Tavern pub (site of) 163, Ilderton Road, Rotherhithe, London, SE16
The fine looking building shown, boasting five floors, stands on what was the tavern that could only boast of three. The area covered is about the same but it seems a shame that they did not incorporate into the new building the masonry, in the form of a large shell, that sat on the roof of the pub.

Ilderton School, from the train
Ilderton (formerly Ilderton Road) School is a fairly classic School Board for London / London County Council structure, dating from the early twentieth century. In the 1930s when Stephen Spender wrote his poem "An Elementary School Classroom in a Slum", this would have served very nicely as a setting.
