E5010 at New Cross ? 1970
Later to become class 71, these electric locomotives were built in 1958 for work mainly in the Kent area. They were used for both passenger and freight work. E5010 (later 71010) was one of those fitted with a pantograph for use in freight yards equipped, for safety reasons, with overhead rather than third rail current supply.

North end of New Cross station
Looking north, towards London Bridge, Cannon Street, Charing Cross, and the East London Line, from the north end of platform C. The platforms at New Cross are lettered rather than numbered, to prevent confusion with the platforms at New Cross Gate station (which was also named New Cross before 1923) a short distance to the west. Platform B (left) shows evidence of recent extension work to enable it to accommodate 12 car trains.
