Overground train leaving New Cross
London Overground electric unit 378 145 leaves platform D at New Cross, forming an East London Line service to Dalston Junction. The platforms at New Cross are lettered rather than numbered, to prevent confusion with the platforms at New Cross Gate station (which was also named New Cross before 1923) a short distance to the west. While all East London Line services to New Cross Gate have been extended south to either Crystal Palace or West Croydon, trains to New Cross still terminate here, just as they have for many years. The class 378/1 units are 750V DC third rail only, and therefore cannot be used on North London Line services. All have been lengthened from four cars to five, hence the large sign on the front (which put me in mind of the "9 CARS" signs in the windows of nine car trains of Standard tube stock on the Northern Line of the Underground during that short lived experiment).

North end of New Cross station
Looking north, towards London Bridge, Cannon Street, Charing Cross, and the East London Line, from the north end of platform C. The platforms at New Cross are lettered rather than numbered, to prevent confusion with the platforms at New Cross Gate station (which was also named New Cross before 1923) a short distance to the west. Platform B (left) shows evidence of recent extension work to enable it to accommodate 12 car trains.
