Deptford waterworks
The Ravensbourne Water Company was founded in 1709 and became the Kent Waterworks Company in 1809. The present building was erected in 1840, originally taking its supply from the river; perhaps surprisingly it is not listed. This view is from across the River Ravensbourne, which was rerouted in the 1990s to allow the construction of the DLR line between the river and the waterworks.

Pumping Station by the Ravensbourne
A view over the river from Brookmill Park.
The Ravensbourne rises near Bromley and flows for 17km to join the tidal Thames at Deptford Creek.

River Ravensbourne in Brookmill Park
The River Ravensbourne used to run in a concrete channel through Brookmill Park but as part of the construction of the Lewisham extension of the Docklands Light Railway in 1999, the river was given a more 'natural' winding course,whilst the DLR used the old course of the river. It was an inspired solution and both the park and the DLR benefited. Brookmill Park has been expanded over the years although some of the park was lost with the DLR extension.
