Labourer & Publican' oedd yn rhedeg y lle. Brawd a chwaer, Hannah (1885-1965) a Twm Williams (1894-1962) a fu'n byw yno yn ystod y 1940au & 1950au neu ynghynt. The ruins of Rhydygelli Fawr (Trans 'Ford of the Grove') in Cwmcerdinen (trans. The valley of the mountain ash stream). According to the 1841 Census it was a public house with William Jones (60) 'publican' at its helm. By 1861, his son in law, John Davies (53) 'Ag Labourer & publican' had taken over the reins. During the 1940's & 1950s or probably earlier the occupants of the now private house were brother and sister Hannah (1885- 1965) and Twm Williams (1894-1962).

Yn anffodus, yn ol cyfrifiad 1911 roedd Rebecca, 60 oed, bellach yn widw ac yn byw gyda hi roedd ei mab Morgan, 33, ac yr oedd hwnnw hefyd yn witman a chanddo chwech o blant a phob un ohynynt o dan 16, yr ifanca yn 3 oed. Roedd y teulu oll yn uniaith Gymraeg. The ruined property known as Cwmbach (trans. little valley) located on the banks of the Dulais River at Cwmcerdinen (rowan [stream] valley). From at least 1841 until the 1870's the occupant was Lucy Jones, widow, who eked out a living as a charwoman and who took in lodgers to make ends meet. By 1881 the property was home to Daniel Davies, 27, collier, his wife Rebecca, and their children and by the next census the number of children has increased to seven. Sadly, according to the 1911 Census Rebecca was by now a widow and residing with her was her son, Morgan Davies, also a widower, and his six children all of whom were under the age of 16, the youngest being 3. The whole family were recorded as being Welsh speaking monoglots.
