Cilfowyr chapel and farm
In 1668 Lettice Morgan of Cilfowyr was involved with the early Welsh Baptists gathering in Rhydwilym, not far away, and subsequently she and her family started holding meetings at their home. In 1716 a local man gave a piece of land for the building of the first chapel and also the use of the water from a nearby stream for baptisms.
Several members of the early Baptist congregation here emigrated via Cardigan to the Welsh Tract in Delaware and Pennsylvania.
The chapel stands adjacent to the former farmyard, down a lane leading from the road from which it is not visible.

Cilfowyr Baptist chapel
Perched on the valleyside next to the old gentry farm of the same name, this chapel was originally established in 1716 although the present edifice was built in 1877. It is still in use today and has a very fine interior.
It has an interesting history, going back to the original, late C17, Welsh Particular Baptist community in the area, see http://www.walesawakening.org/pictures.php

Cilfowyr graveyard
Serried ranks of slate grave markers testify to this chapel's historical significance. It has a capacity for 500 worshippers but the regular congregation today is only around 15.
There is a breathtaking view northeast across the Teifi valley and towards the distant Ceredigion coast.
