Maris Otter
The Maris Otter malt is the blank canvas on which the head brewer creates his work of art. Blending other types of malt and Image creates the unique flavour of each beer. This one was waiting to be turned into an Abbeydale http://www.abbeydalebrewery.co.uk/brewery.html brew

Abbeydale Brewery
Here the hot liquor (brewing water) is steaming out of the mash tun at the beginning of the brewing process where Image and other malts plus hops are magically transmogrified into real ale! Abbeydale have been brewing since 1996, increasing demand has required the construction of this new plant. One interesting feature is the blackout paint on the skylight, this is believed to have been applied as part of air raid precautions in WW2 when the site used for far less interesting purposes!

Hop Back
Here the Abbeydale Brewery http://www.abbeydalebrewery.co.uk/brewery.html brewer is pumping the hot wort (unfermented beer) into a tank containing hops where the bitter flavour and preservative qualities are imparted. Not all brewers use this technique to misquote the brewer “many brewers boil the hops to bloomery in the copper which does nothing for the flavour”
