Flash flooding on Saxon Road
Sheffield was hit by flash floods on 10 June 2009 and again on 15 June, as is shown here. The photo was taken from a road bridge over the River Sheaf, which is some 5m below, at least. The road has become a river flowing over the river below.

Heeley - Wolf Safety Lamp Company
Works on Saxon Lane. The Wolf Safety Lamp Company was established in Leeds in the 1880's as a distributor for German mining lamp manufacturer Friemann and Wolf. In 1912, the Leeds company was acquired and relocated to South Yorkshire where it began to develop safety lamps more suited to British methods and regulations of mining and quarrying. Throughout the following decades, many new products were developed to meet new safety regulations and demands for improved lighting. In 2012, Wolf Safety celebrated its centenary anniversary and welcomed HRH The Earl of Wessex to its Saxon Road Works to unveil Wolf's Centenary plaque (this silver plaque can be seen on the Works wall on the right of the photo).
