Woodseats Mews
Modern high density housing. This estate is built on the site of Norton Hammer, close to the upper dam. Norton Hammer was an iron forge, later used as a grinding wheel for scythes and sickles. The Norton Hammer was in use until the 1880's, and was abandoned by 1991.

The Sheffield - Manchester Railway
Looking towards Sheffield city centre from the Archer Road overbridge. There used to be four tracks here but now there are only two. And though four tracks would be useful on today's congested railway, especially as HS2 trains may be using them in the future, it is unlikely to happen as some of the land has been used for commercial purposes.

Sheffield South Delivery Office
Sheffield South Delivery Office stands on the site of the Norton Hammer, where, since at least 1637 iron was smelted and forged. The Norton Hammer, and its two dams dominated this area, extending across the other side of Woodseats Road, and up to Ulverston Road. The site eventually became a grinding wheel for scythes and sickles. The site remained in use until the 1880's, but had been abandoned by 1891.
