Rockley Engine House was built in 1813 to house a newcomen engine which was used to pump water from nearby iron workings.

Newcomen engine house, Rockley
Dated 1813 and housed a Newcomen atmospheric engine. Drained an iron ore mine. Rockley Furnace is very close by. The bob wall is to the left and the chimney is on the right hand edge. The two square holes almost certainly held wooden bearers for the engine's open topped cylinder

Newcomen engine house, Rockley
Dated 1813 and housed a Newcomen atmospheric engine. Drained an iron ore mine. Rockley Furnace is very close by. This is the rear view with the opening that the cylinder would have gone through and the remains of the chimney on the right rear corner.
