Sheffield - Leeds stopping train at Wath Road Junction
View SE, towards Swinton and Sheffield Midland: ex-Midland Sheffield - Leeds/York main line, approaching where the York (Swinton & Knottingley Joint) line branched off the main line to Leeds - the line via Cudworth and Normanton subsequently abandoned. Underneath here the ex-GC line from Wath Yard etc. to Mexborough etc. passed underneath. (See also for example Image]). The locomotive is Fowler 6'9" 3-cylinder Compound 4P 4-4-0 No. 41068 (built. c.1925, withdrawn 12/58). A train of high-capacity coke wagons is passing on the Up Goods line.

Queen Street, Mexborough
What appears to be a short section of wall is actually part of a former railway bridge. The cutting on both sides of Queen Street has been landfilled up to and above the level of the road - witness the newly constructed tarmac footpath going behind the "wall". The former Wath Road landfill site, behind the wooden fence, that used the cutting is now closed and the site has been landscaped.

Main lines cross near Wath Road and Mexborough West Junctions
View SE, with an Up freight (headed by LMS 4F 0-6-0 No. 44428) on the ex-Midland Leeds - Sheffield main line crossing over the ex-Great Central Penistone, Barnsley - Wath Yard - Mexborough - Doncaster/Sheffield line as ex-GC J11 0-6-0 No. 64363 runs tender-first towards Mexborough. Just through the bridge can be glimpsed the Swinton & Knottingley (Midland & NE) Joint line coming from the left from Knottingley and York. (Another train-watcher's paradise).
