Rotherham North Neighbourhood

Neighbourhood Policing

Neighbourhood Policing in South Yorkshire provides communities with Teams of dedicated, local Police Officers together with Police Community Support Officers, who listen to and work with the public, community groups, partner agencies and businesses to reduce crime, protect the vulnerable and enhance community safety through problem-solving approaches.

SYP’s Neighbourhood Policing promises are to:-
• Include a number of organisations working in partnership and with the public to deliver results in a joint way;
• Protect the vulnerable through early intervention and prevention;
• Proactively understand and prevent crime and harm by working together to solve problems, identifying offenders and people at most risk of harm;
• Tackle crime and antisocial behaviour; and
• Engage and communicate effectively with communities by listening to and prioritising concerns helping us to understand the issues that matter the most.

Every neighbourhood in South Yorkshire has a dedicated Neighbourhood Policing Team (NHP) that works together with the local community to protect the vulnerable, tackle crime and antisocial behaviour, engage and communicate effectively with communities and enhance community safety through problem solving partnership approaches, days of action and enforcement.

Welcome message from the Neighbourhood Inspector Lesley Fretwell
Hello! I’m Lesley Fretwell and I’m the Inspector covering Rotherham North. I have 17 years service this year and have worked in response policing in Barnsley, Doncaster and Rotherham, before moving to join neighbourhood policing this year.

If you live in Rawmarsh, Swinton, Parkgate, Kilnhurst, Dalton, Wath, Manvers, Wentworth, West Melton, Brampton, Cortonwood, Harley, Manor Farm, Dalton, East Herringthorpe or Woodlaithes, we are your policing team.

Much of the area we cover is residential so getting to know our communities, hosting regular drop-ins and conducting targeted patrols around burglary are a few of our main priorities at the moment.

I’d love to hear from you about any concerns you have, but also any community groups or networks we can get involved in. We’re always looking for opportunities to build relationships with local people – so please get in touch.

I am based at Rawmarsh Police Station and invite you to follow the team on Twitter @RothNorthNPT and Facebook RotherhamNorthNPT

We receive regular reports of nuisance bikes in the Wath area - particularly around Sandymount Rd and the White Bear Estate. These are raised via members of the public contacting the Police, or via Ward Councillors.

Response (14 Nov 2024)

The issues are being discussed with partners and local Councillors within the CAP meetings that take place. With partners, we are seeking to reduce access, raise awareness, increase reporting and intelligence to allow us to target offenders and seize bikes. Outr aim is to reduce the opportunity to use the bikes in the area, and target those causing the nuisance. This is being managed within a POP plan - a problem orientated police plan, with RMBC, SYP Rural crime and off road bike team and the NPT. We will be having joint operations to tackle offenders in the area and undertaking work to develop intelligence to support this operation.
