Wentworth Woodhouse - east front
The vast Palladian mansion of Wentworth Woodhouse with an east front around 600ft long - the longest in Britain. The house is virtually two mansions joined back to back, the earlier west front being invisible to passers by. The west front was begun around 1733, but was unfinished some 20 years later. The elevation was altered and added to by John Carr in 1782-84. A magnificent house which unfortunately is not open to the public.

View from Hoober Stand
From the top of the tower, the Marquis of Rockingham would have been able to survey his vast estate and his monumental home. In reality, two homes as the older red brick house which faces west can be glimpsed on the right.
