These houses are on Elm Walk. There is no road leading to the fronts of these houses although Elm Road, behind, does give access to the backs. The path to the fronts is from Image The outlook from these dwellings used to be over a small field (part of which can be seen, left and bottom, in the photograph) toward Image However, thanks to Millennium Funding, a Image for the school and local community was built of part of the land. The photograph shows the Sports Hall that was built with support from Lottery Millennium Funding. As well as Image benefiting from the project, the local community can use it for sports and meetings. The photograph shows Lansbury Avenue (foreground) at its junction with Image To the left Morton Road continues (north-westerly) toward the village centre. To the right the road continues (south-westerly) toward its junctions with Padley Wood Lane and Pewit Lane (pronounced locally as ‘Pie-white’) and the village of Morton. A few metres behind the viewpoint is Image's junction with Queensway.

When this photograph was taken this building was the village post office. It is the first building on its side of Image and stands almost directly opposite the Image public house. The photograph shows the small sports ground behind the Image, which is lined out for playing football To the left and leading toward the middle of the picture is Image On the right of the picture is the Image and on the far right, in the distance, is the Image The photograph was taken from the south-eastern corner of the sports ground where an undefined public footpath down the right of the photograph crosses a stile (behind the viewpoint) to join Sitwell Grange Lane and then southward to Tibshelf. To the right of the viewpoint (off the picture) is a school Image

Prior to 1800, Pilsley was purely an agricultural settlement and at that time it consisted of Upper Pilsley and Nether Pilsley. Few of the houses from that period still exist, these being some of them on the corner of Image and Image near Image There are a few others around Barlow Bank Image and Image in Upper Pilsley near the site of the old village well. In the main these houses are constructed from coal-measure sandstone from a local quarry. This stone is soft and contains a high percentage of iron. The quarry that it came from was to the north of Upper Pilsley but no longer exists.
