Hambleden House, Exchange Street, Sheffield
A nice example of inter-war commercial building (1922 is suggested), apparently fenestration. Originally for W.H. Smith, later occupied by the South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive, empty at the time of the photo, and later threatened with demolition, since when it has become home to "studio, project and exhibition space for 80 artists" (aka Exchange Place Studios).

Sheffield: the Sheaf joins the Don
Further to Image, here we see the River Sheaf emerge from its journey under the city centre, whereupon it immediately joins the Don, which flows right to left across this picture before continuing under Blonk Street – the bridge parapet can be seen extreme left.

Sheffield, S1 - Blonk Street Bridge
Having surfaced briefly by Pond Hill and then having passed under the Ponds Forge district, the River Sheaf flows through a huge cavern before joining the River Don here beside Blonk Street Bridge. Blonk Street was named after Benjamin Blonk, a tenant of Castle Orchards water wheel (circa 1750s-1770s). The Alexandra pub (named after the former Alexandra Opera House whose rear entrance emptied out onto Castlegate) is now boarded up, as is the public toilet block that appears to have been built into the bridge structure at the Blonk Street/Castlegate junction (Note the small windows overlooking the converging rivers).

A new use for this building at the confluence of the River Don and the River Sheaf which was originally a public toilet. Its opening has been delayed because of the Covid-19 restrictions.
