Trans Pennine Trail signage
At Oxspring about 1.5 miles east of Penistone. The national grid reference is valuable for determining ones whereabouts on what could be, in places, a rather featureless linear trail.

The Willows, Oxspring
The pattern of fields behind the bungalows are interesting because they preserve the medieval field boundaries that were still in place at the time of the 1852 enclosure. This is best viewed from above. See http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=Sheffield,+S35+7AT&ie=UTF8&ll=53.514963,-1.605527&spn=0.010845,0.027122&t=h&z=16

Oxspring Panorama
View across to Sheffield Road with houses and `The Willows' estate (bungalows). The packhorse route left the village approximately where Back Lane is now (to the right of The Willows) towards Underbank Hill crossroads where there were a choice of routes. Straight-on might take you to Bolsterstone and then on to Derbyshire, while turning right at the crossroads would lead on to the old salt trail across the Pennines and into Cheshire. Image
