Entrance to Norfolk Park
Norfolk Park was one of the first free parks in the country, opening in 1848, and given as a gift to the City of Sheffield in 1910 by the Duke of Norfolk. It features spectacular views across the city.

Monumental Archway, Norfolk Park, Sheffield
The monumental arch is all that remains of the original refreshment pavilion that served the parks visitors. The pavilion was built around 1910 and survived until it had to be demolished following an arson attack in 1995. The top of the arch contains the coats of arms of the Duke of Norfolk (who donated the park to the city) and of the city itself. In the centre is a relief of the Duke of Norfolk. the text in the panel beneath reads:

FOR THE USE OF THE PUBLIC AND TO
COMMEMORATE THE GIFT OF THIS
PARK TO THE CITIZENS OF SHEFFIELD

As a result of a lottery funded project a new modern building was built nearby to serve the local community and visitors as part of an overall scheme to restore the park.

Memorial archway in Norfolk Park
The archway was once part of the tea pavilion constructed in 1910 when the park was gifted to the citizens of Sheffield by the Duke of Norfolk. The building was demolished in 1995 following an arson attack but the archway was preserved and now provides the entrance to a viewing platform which affords a great view over the city centre. Footbridge in Jervis Lum (Woodland)
Iron bridge crossing a surprisingly deep gorge near the southern end of Norfolk Park. Lum (or 'lumb') refers to a slow-moving stream through a cleft or ravine often joining a pond or lake.
