The archway was once part of the tea pavilion constructed in 1910 when the park was gifted to the citizens of Sheffield by the Duke of Norfolk. The building was demolished in 1995 following an arson attack but the archway was preserved and now provides the entrance to a viewing platform which affords a great view over the city centre. See Image for details of the inscription stone.
