Brincliffe Towers in Chelsea Park, Sheffield
Built in 1874 for a successful local accountant - Alfred Allott. In more recent years it was a residential home for the elderly until being sold off in 2011. I understand that it is currently undergoing refurbishment before becoming a private family home once again.

Sheffield - the green city
Golden early morning sunlight spilling through an oasis of mature trees, shrubs and gardens in the leafy suburb of Nether Edge, Sheffield. The western suburbs of Sheffield are unusually green for an industrial city, having been built by the Victorians who understood the importance of greenery within their towns.

Brincliffe Tower in Chelsea Park
Reduced funding for residential homes for the elderly meant that Brincliffe Tower closed its doors to needy old people some ten years ago.

View from Brincliffe Towers
Through the trees of Chelsea Park you can see The Royal Hallamshire Hospital. Brincliffe Towers is a large Victorian house that was built for a local accountant called Alfred Allott in 1874. In more recent years it was used as a residential home for the elderly but is currently disused awaiting the approval of new plans for its future. See http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/2873405

Ecclesall Road South at Banner Cross
Junction with Brincliffe Edge Road. Banner Cross Methodist church to the left. Psalter Lane keeps straight on at the traffic lights. Ecclesall Road bears left down the hill with most of the traffic.
Psalter Lane reminds us of the days when packhorse trains brought salt from Cheshire towards the city and the south of Yorkshire. The long closed TSB bank building is in the corner between the two roads. Gilders VW car dealership is on the right hand side of the picture, beside the lights. Or it was. That too is now closed, awaiting redevelopment.
In the distance a white multi-storey building stands prominent against the hillside. Formerly the 4-star Hallam Tower Hotel, the best in Sheffield. For many years it has lain empty, awaiting redevelopment as student flats, or high class apartments - or anything! A forlorn presence in an affluent neighbourhood.
