Shops in Chadwell Heath Lane
Taken from the end of Hall Road, where I was born and grew up in the 1940's and 50's. The shop on the corner of Reynolds Avenue was then a greengrocers called Wally's (he who ran it). The shop on the right was Beeston's (after the very old - as it seemed to me then - couple who ran it) It was a tobacconist, newsagent and sweetshop where I sourced my sweets, Beano, Dandy and Film Fun each week - and the occasional packet of 5 Player's Weights for my mum if she had her rollers in and couldn't go out!

Entrance to St Chad's Park from Park Lane
St Chad's Park is the oldest park in the Borough of Barking & Dagenham, having its origins in 1831 when the Crown granted four acres of Chadwell Heath as allotments to the poor. The remainder of the Heath was enclosed in 1866 with another three acres designated for public use and the park reached its present extent in 1928 when adjacent farmland was added. The Mayes Brook once flowed above ground along part of the park's northern boundary but has now been culverted.

Chadwell Millennium Green
Chadwell Millennium Green was originally an unnamed set of allotments. After these were abandoned a planning application was put in to turn the site into thirty houses. The residents objected to this, due to lack of access and infrastructure, and applied to turn the site into a small pocket park for present and future generations. This is now Chadwell Millennium Green.

Chadwell Heath: Japan Road
There is only one other Japan Road in the UK, (in Gainsborough, Lincs), and a house in this short road was the home of Eva Hart, the Titanic survivor. There is an entrance to St Chad's Park at the end of the road.
